Camping at Brazos Bend

We braved the weather and headed out to Brazos Bend State Park for a weekend of camping. There was a risk of rain all weekend but we decided to take a chance.

The spot we chose had some vine branches on it that the kids quickly found worked great as a swing.

We backed up to a great grove of trees. Much time was spent exploring and climbing back there. We saw many deer, an armadillo or two, and a couple of raccoons that were interested in what we had packed in our containers.

We were able to try out our new kitchen that we got for Christmas. It worked beautifully! The space it gives us is perfect for all the cooking tasks, and the storage is great for pots and pans, plates, and other utensils we often use.

Saturday we went on a 5-mile hike. We were able to do some geocaching along the way...finding 5 caches before my phone died. It was a nice hike. There are about 35 miles of trails there and we have only covered about half. There is still work to be done!

We woke early Sunday to warm, humid weather. We quickly decided we better pack up. Lucky we did as it started raining as soon as we finished. Our stuff stayed dry as we headed home a bit earlier than we planned. It was a great weekend!
