Brayden is playing baseball for the Reds this season. He is getting more and more into baseball as he learns more about it. He has been struggling somewhat batting (machine pitch) as the speed increased to 42 mph this season. He has a great coach this season that is very positive, though, and continues to work with him. His swing looks good...he just needs to gain confidence so he can hit the ball consistently.
In the field it seems to be the exact opposite...his confidence and skills are soaring. They switch positions at this age so he plays all over. He now understands what he should be doing at the different positions and has excelled at many of them. His arm strength has greatly improved. He can now easily make the throw from 3rd to 1st. 3rd base is his new favorite spot! He has made some very nice plays from there throwing out runners. It is fun to watch.
Alayna has had a different result in soccer this year. She is still playing hard and is pretty good. She is tough and will stick her nose in there constantly. She can also kick the ball extremely hard. Her accuracy is not great but the other teams are very reluctant to step in front of her when she winds up to kick.
Her sports induced asthma is still a factor and she has been struggling with allergies much more this year so catching her breath has been an issue.
The other big change is her coach. She has had the same coach for 3-4 years...both spring and fall seasons. He has "retired" as his daughter no longer plays. Her new coach is much different...not bad, just different. She has struggled to make the transition. Her team has won every game easily...and they all play well. She doesn't seem to be having as much fun though. This may be her last soccer season as she is now starting to find an interest in volleyball. With her height and breathing issues, that may not be a bad move anyway!
