National Park Tour- Grand Canyon Day 3

The kids worked to get their Junior Ranger badge while here at the Grand Canyon. We went to get them sworn in. The ranger did an awesome job with the kids. We talked a bit more to the ranger. He told us he has been here for three years and he had never seen it rain as hard or as long as it did the day before. No wonder our stuff was soaked!

We started off our adventure today hiking the Bright Angel Trailhead. It has a couple tunnels that you get to go through as you are walking the trail. The kids were excited to see these.

The first tunnel was a half mile down the trail. It was an easy hike with yet again a wonderful view. The kids said they wanted to see the other tunnel, so we kept going.

The second tunnel was another .8 miles from the first. It was a much steeper trail...we ended up going down about 700 feet. Once again, what goes down must come up. The kids did a great job again! All in all we hiked about 2.5 miles on this one.

While we were looking through the maps we found Hopi Point. We figured this must be Grandma Hopi's (Judy) area so we went to investigate.

Let me tell you...Grandma has an incredible view! You can even see the Colorado River from there.
The sky was turning dark and we did not want to battle rain again, so we made the decision to pack up and make our way, or at least part of the way, to our last destination...Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Thank goodness we did. As we were driving out it started to pour and we drove 50 miles south until it stopped raining. We may have floated away this time!
We stopped for the night in Grants, NM at a KOA and asked for a cabin. We are not taking any chances!
