The 1st Official Woony 40

Today, July 1, 2013 marks the first running of "The Woony 40", a 40 mile bicycle ride from Woonsocket to Huron and back. There were 4 official cyclists entered in the competition: Tracy Bennett (an up and coming cyclist originally from Woonsocket but now hailing from Rochester, Minnesota), Lindy Peterson (a legendary cyclist in these parts), and Jennifer and Alayna Wagner (two dark-horses representing the great state of Texas). Alayna was a part-time participant...jumping in for a few legs of the race. She ended up riding for 10 miles if the trip.

Brayden, Grandma, and I filled the role of the pit crew. We met them every 3-5 miles for a water and snack break. (We are the ones smart enough to know that it's crazy to ride a bike that far unless it has a motor.)

The ride started off with smiles and good spirits. The weather was nice and cool and the sun was shining bright. It was going to be a glorious day!

The group made it to Huron! They were now half way. Everyone was looking and feeling great!

Here is the picture I took when they weren't looking.

The ride back went well for everyone. They stopped in at M-T Corner for lunch and some ice cream to celebrate, then finished the last 3 miles into town. They were greeted by fireworks at the finish line.

The final tally showed a 42 mile trip. We are extremely proud of all participants. A celebratory toast and drink marked the closing of the ceremonies.
